Tudor Oyster Prince Submariner “Pointed Crown Guards” Ref. 7928 The Tudor 7928 stands out as the first reference to use crown guards on its case, paving the way to become one of the brand’s most iconic sports models that enjoyed an extensive production period starting around 1960 and continuing until approximately 1968. This resulted in various implementations of the protective part of the case, as well as the dial’s layout, which served as a clear demonstration of the constant and dynamic evolution within the same reference. The present example from 1960 has distinctive pointed crown guards that earned it the “Cornino” moniker. If compared with its Rolex 5513 doppleganger bearing the the same case attributes, the present Tudor 7928 is an incredible opportunity to pick up something truly special for a fraction of the price. MODEL / REFERENCE: Tudor Oyster Prince Submariner reference 7928. The serial number dates it to circa 1960.
DIAL: The matte black dial presents the small rose logo and intact silver print. The open chapter and “T Swiss T” signature at 6 o’clock are still beautifully present. There is some regular spotting from age. The Tritium markers are present and intact, except for the 11 o’clock one which shows a crack. They have aged to acquire an “earthy” yellow tone. The lume-coated handset is in gorgeous condition and has aged to match to the markers’ shade.
CRYSTAL: ”super dome” crystal in very good condition with light visible wear.
CASE: The 39mm Oyster case is in very nice condition with strong lines and visible bevels. It features a very prized “Pointed Crown Guards” variation and displays normal signs of wear consistent with the age of the watch. The Aluminum bezel insert is starting to fade and displays some “battle scars”. The luminous pearl is missing.
CASEBACK: Signed Oyster case back that bears the period correct stamps.
CROWN: Signed Rolex crown that closes securely and operates as intended.
MOVEMENT: The self-winding Cal. 390 is in full working order and keeps good time.
BRACELET: Rolex Rivet Oyster bracelet with signed clasp, stamped “2/61” and 382 end-links. The middle part of the last link to the clasp is missing.
ACCESSORIES: Saffiano Leather Watch Roll.
