For sale Movado “Datron HS 360” reference 434-705-502.
ChronoScope collector watches offers this Movado Datron HS 360 chronograph with significant automatic movement and charismatic appearance. This horological artifact from the 1970s is a truly undervalued gem with a significant watchmaking pedigree. Movado’s roots go back to 1881, when it was founded by Achilles Ditesheim in La Chaux-de-Fonds. Perhaps the brand lost its luster over the years, but in reality, their offerings go way beyond the minimalist Meuseum model. The rise through the ranks of the manufacture came with the production of high quality timepieces, using superior François Borgel cases and in-house movements, namely the M90/M95 “Chronacvatic” or the triple calendars. Fast forward to 1969, when Movado was purchased by Zenith after leading a joint R&D development operation, during which they shared designs and movements. The same year also witnessed one of the most important milestones in watchmaking history, as the Zenith El Primero was arguably the first self-winding chronograph movement ever produced, even though Seiko and the Project 99 consortium would beg to differ. Whether it was the first or not, the high-beat calibre was considered the pinnacle of engineering of its time and is still enjoys that unrivaled reputation after nearly 50 years of continuous production. The Movado 3019 PHC found in the present example is no less worthy of attention than its Zenith counterpart, which has a date at 12 o’clock instead of the usual position between 4 and 5. In other words, this Datron HS 360 is a testament of durability that speaks for Movado’s accomplishments at the near end of its golden age. Please read the condition report carefully and refer to the high resolution pictures to help you assess the overall condition of the watch.MODEL / REFERENCE: Movado “Datron HS 360” reference 434-705-502.
DIAL+HANDS: The matte black dial follows a reverse panda color scheme, with three contrasting silver subdials executed in guilloché motif. The clean and attractive design is reminiscent of the Rolex Daytona 6263.
Overall, the dial is nearly immaculate with its crisp imprint and no minor defects. A warm patina can be observed when inspecting it closely.
CRYSTAL: The domed acrylic glass is in very good condition with only few minor scratches throughout.
CASE: The tonneau-shaped stainless steel case measures 38mm in diameter and 43mm from lug to lug. The sleek bezel makes the chronograph appear a bit larger on the wrist.
The case is most likely unpolished as it maintains a strong profile with sharp bevels along the sides and unaltered brushed finish. It displays minimal signs of wear for its age, commensurate with careful wear.
CASE BACK: The dodecagonal, screw-down case back shows a well pronounced “Sub Sea” engraving, along with various scratches covering the matte-finished center and polished flange. This term was used at the time to indicate the water resistance of the watch.
The inner side is clean and bears the period-correct stamps.
CROWNS + PUSHERS: The correct winding crown bears the brand’s signature and operates flawlessly, all the way to quick-setting the date function.
The pump chronograph pushers work correctly, starting, stopping and resetting with a crisp feedback.
MOVEMENT: This Datron is powered by the emblematic Zenith El Primero 3019 PHC. The self-winding movement features 31 jewels and beats at an impressive rate of 36000 vibrations per hour.
It offers a Tri-Compax display, featuring constant running seconds at 9 o’clock, a 30 minutes recorder at 3 o’clock and a 12 hour totalizer at 6 o’clock. The movement also allows a quick-set date function at 12 o’clock.
The numbered calibre has been serviced. It is thus in excellent mechanical condition, keeping accurate time, with all functions working perfectly.
BRACELET: The original stainless steel bracelet comes with its correct 18mm end links. The top one is slightly bent.
Other than its fantastic condition and minimal stretch, the flexible links allow the bracelet to sit comfortably on a 19 cm wrist circumference.
The folding clasp closes securely and displays the correct nomenclature, as well as the distinctive Movado logo.
ACCESSORIES: ChronoScope Collector Watches Saffiano Leather Watch Roll.
The styling of this Movado Datron is downright elegant and the rare stainless steel bracelet adds a touch of sportiness.
The dial, crown, case back, movement, and clasp are signed Movado. The watch is fully functional and ready to be worn.
WARRANTY: We guarantee the authenticity of the watch. We also provide 12 month guarantee for the correct function of this timepiece. All guarantees are subject to the General Terms and conditions of ChronoScope Collector Watches, Switzerland.
