We are proud to offer this very clean and beautiful example of the Heuer Carrera 3647S with a silver dial and starburst finish.
The manual Carreras were produced until 1969, when they were replaced by their automatic counterparts. They came in a variety of styles with a range of dials, but an all-black one continues to be the most demanded of the bunch. This reference 3647S is a sporty-elegant chronograph and a great vintage watch for daily wear. Please read the condition report carefully and refer to the high-resolution pictures to help you assess the overall condition of the watch.
MODEL / REFERENCE: Heuer Carrera chronograph, reference 3647S, serial number 72835
DIAL+HANDS: The printing is still very crisp, all the way through to the rehaut displaying the 1/5 second demarcations. This inner ring is an aesthetic success beyond its role as a tension ring. The sleek dial displays no staining or tarnishing and follows a bi-compax layout. The engine-turned, sunken subdial with the small running seconds is positioned at 9 o’clock while the chronograph 45-minute counter is placed at 3 o’clock. The applied hour markers are faceted and each one is associated with a fully intact Tritium dot, which have acquired a nice patina. The original luminescent handset exhibits no degradation to its luminous inlays that showing a beautiful beige patina.
CRYSTAL: The correct crystal is in good condition with only light signs of use.
MOVEMENT: This chronograph houses the workhorse, manually wound, Valjoux 92. A high quality column-wheel movement, featuring a constant running seconds register at 10 o’clock and a 45 minutes subdial at 3 o’clock. The chronograph bridge is signed “ED. HEUER & CO. SA”. The movement runs strong and keeps good time. The chronograph starts stops and resets as expected.
CASE: This Carrera is housed in an elegant 35.3 mm stainless steel case with long angular inward lugs. Lug-to-lug, the case measures 44mm The case appears to be unpolished and retains a strong profile, with well-defined lines and even lugs. It shows signs of use commensurate with the age of the watch. The serial number is engraved between the lugs at 6 o’clock.
CASEBACK: The 6 notches stainless-steel caseback screws in tightly. It is in good condition and features a custom engraving from Easter 1968. The inner side is decorated and clean, bearing the “Heuer-Leonidas S.A” signature stamp.
CROWN + PUSHERS: The signed crown operates normally, from winding to time setting. The pump pushers are original and operate the chronograph functions perfectly.
BRACELET: The watch comes with a high quality, handmade Two Stitch leather strap and a Heuer pin buckle in steel.ACCESSORIES: Saffiano Leather Watch Roll. The 3647S Carrera remains a stunner, proving the brilliance of Jack Heuer’s design philosophy that was functional and undeniably beautiful.
