Ecole Technique Valle de Joux – automatic Chronometer Cal. 1341, serviced – 1974

Here is your opportunity to acquire an extremely rare and possibly unique automatic Chronometer Ecole Technique Valle de Joux with Cal. 1341. This watch was created by a student of the Ecole Technique upon graduation of the watchmaking school, probably in 1974. Interestingly, there is lume dot applied at the 74 mark. While we cannot be 100% sure why it is there, it is most probably a reminder of the year 1974, the year the watch was presumably made upon graduation form the watchmaking school. These watches were made in very small numbers for non-commercial purpose and were usually worn by the watchmakers themselves. As a consequence, they come up seldom for sale. A true collectors item!. MODEL / REFERENCE: Chronometre Ecole Technique Valle de Joux Cal. Lemania 1341. Movement serial number 3’622’909

DIAL: Attractive white panda dial in mint condition, applied indexe. The dial is in original condition. All writing is crisp. The datewheel is clean. The applied lume dots are present and have aged to a warm beige patina. The tritium glows when activated under UV light, and then fades off.  The lume dots at 6 and 9 show some lume loss, while all the others are fully intact. The black rehaut carries a Tachymeter scale. Interestingly, there is lume dot applied at the 74 mark. While we cannot be 100% sure, it is most probably a reminder of the year 1974, the year the watch was presumably made upon graduation form the watchmaking school. The lower part of the rehaut shows the application of black paint in the area between the 105 and 125 markers. It is visible in certain angles only.

HANDS: The handset is completely original and well preserved; The Tritium stripes of the white hour and minute hands are intact, matching the color of the lume indexes. The eminently useful central chronograph minute hand recorder has an airplane-shaped tip to distinguish it from the seconds hand which are both black and orange adding a warm touch and a bit of reading ease.

CASE: two part, waterproof tonneau-shaped steel case measuring a modern 39 mm in diameter and 44 mm from lug to lug. This beauty snugs into the wrist and wears comfortably without compromising its wrist presence. The case shows signs of use consistent with the age of this timepiece.

CASEBACK: The 6 notches, screw down stainless steel caseback is well preserved, retaining its original brushed finish and displaying light signs of use. The inner side is stamped with a crisp engraving in French indicating the case material. The watch’s reference number can be seen underneath it.

CRYSTAL: The plexiglass crystal is well preserved and displays only minor surface scratches.

CROWN+PUSHERS: The crown is correct to the watch despite being unsigned and operates flawlessly. The pump Pushers are in good condition, working properly, from starting, stopping to resetting to zero without any issues.

MOVEMENT: The watch is powered by a workhorse, 17 jewel, Lemania cal. 1341, a self-winding, cam lever chronograph with a quickset date function. All functions are working correctly, both the seconds and minute recording hands reset to zero. The movement runs strongly and keeps good time.

BRACELET: The watch comes on a custommade, Italian black leather strap with unsigned steel buckle.
