We are proud to present this exceptionally refined and rare dress watch in stainless steel, issued by the oldest continuously operating watch manufacture, with production extending all the way back to 1755: Vacheron Constantin.
This reference 7397 is seldom seen for many reasons: Vacheron had to embrace the “sports luxury” category along with its usual classicly styled timepieces in the 1970s. Furthermore, the case is executed in stainless steel rather than a precious metal. Needless to say, the K1072 caliber inside, is one of the finest automatic movements ever produced by Jaeger LeCoultre exclusively for Vacheron Constantin and Audemars Piguet. All in all, this timepiece is guaranteed to enchant vintage collectors everywhere. MODEL / REFERENCE: Vacheron Constantin dress watch reference 7397.
DIAL+ HANDS: The sunburst silver is in near mint condition with a very subtle patina. The framed date wheel at 3 o’clock is clean and crisp. The black imprint is sharp and complete, from the text to the minutes track. The brand’s name in serif might have been reprinted somewhere in the past. The applied hour markers and the baton hands are dissected with black onyx inlays creating a nice contrast with the dial, hence easier legibility. They’re in great condition, with a touch of very light patina.
CRYSTAL: The domed Plexiglas crystal is in immaculate, scratch-free condition.
CASE: The tonneau shaped, stainless steel case measures 35mm in diameter and 39mm lug to lug. This case somewhat resembles the famed case design known as the “Batman”. With its wide-set bezel and extended lugs, it offers great wearability and presence on the wrist. The case remains strong, probably unpolished, displaying a radial satin finish on the top and sharp, shiny bevels, along with few light scratches and nicks especially on the side, consistent with regular wear.
CASEBACK: The dodecagonal, screw-down, stainless steel case back adds a touch of sporty feel of the timepiece. It is in lovely, untouched condition, retains its original finish and shows some subtle fine scratches. The decorated inner face is clean and stamped with the brand’s name and reference number.
MOVEMENT: The watch is fitted with the rhodium plated K1072/1 self-winding caliber with a date function. A technical gem, this 29 jewels movement displays a Geneva seal, “fausses côtes” decoration and has been adjusted to cold, heat, Isochronism, as well as 5 positions. As if not impressive enough, the free spinning rotor with a “guilloché” 18k gold rim is mounted on four ruby rollers. The movement is running well with high amplitude keeping good time and the date changes as intended.
CROWN: The timepiece comes with an unsigned stainless steel crown of the correct shape. It operates flawlessly, from winding to time setting.
BRACELET: 19mm black leather strap with and an unsigned stainless steel pin buckle.
ACCESSORIES: Saffiano Leather Watch Roll. This Vacheron Constantin Ref. 7397 is an excellent addition to any vintage collection. It is triple signed and excellently preserved with a fully working caliber, a beautiful dial and an untouched case.
