Rolex Submariner Reference 5513 “Serif” And “Feet First” Dial
When thinking of a classic dive watch, the Rolex 5513 is often the first option to come to mind, thanks to its straightforward design and rugged built quality. Produced between 1962 to 1989, this reference is far from being scarce, but the relatively long production period gave way to a wide array of executions and iterations.
From 1969 and onwards, Rolex switched to a feet-first rating to cater to the growing U.S. market and the present example testifies on that era all while carrying a desirable serif trait on the dial as well as a patina so perfect you don’t want to look away from! Add to that a well-preserved case and bracelet that will make this very Sub a true collector’s item that has aged beautifully, like a fine wine.
Please read the condition report carefully and refer to the high-resolution pictures to help you assess the overall condition of the watch.
MODEL / REFERENCE: Rolex Submariner Reference 5513 “Serif” and “Feet First” dial. The 5152XXX serial range dates it to circa 1977.
DIAL+HANDS: The matte black dial has gracefully aged and remains utterly charming. The superbly preserved imprint signals two remarkable “serif” and “feet first” traits. The puffy Tritium markers are present, and their contours started to slightly decay. They have acquired a rich pumpkin colour that gives just the right amount of vintage charm. The luminous Mercedes handset is in gorgeous condition and has a matching colour tone to the markers.
CRYSTAL: The low dome acrylic crystal displays few hairline scratches.
CASE: The 40mm Oyster case is still strong with prominent bevels, thick symmetrical lugs along with various scratches and wear marks consistent with the age of a tool watch, namely a visible chip on the bottom left lug. The Aluminum bezel insert has superbly faded and shows no various signs of use. The Tritium pearl at 12 is original and intact.
CASEBACK: The signed Oyster case back bears the period correct stamps and reference number on the inside. With the knurling still intact, the surface bears various scratches and some dings commensurate with the age and use of a tool watch.
CROWN: The signed Rolex “Triplock” crown screws-in tightly and operates perfectly as intended.
MOVEMENT: The self-winding Cal. 1520 is in full working order and keeps accurate time.
BRACELET: The 93150 Oyster bracelet comes with 580 end links and a signed folded clasp. The “A” date code indicates 1976 as the manufacturing year. We believe it is original to the watch.
ASSECCORIES: Saffiano leather watch roll.
WARRANTY: We guarantee the authenticity of the watch. We also provide a 12-month guarantee for the correct function of this timepiece. All guarantees are subject to the General Terms and conditions.
