SOLD – Omega Cosmic Triple Calendar in 18k gold

Launched in 1947, the Cosmic was Omega’s groundbreaking timepiece, seamlessly integrating the time, date, day of the week, and lunar phase. At its debut, this triple calendar complication showcased the pinnacle of its horological expertise. The dial presents a harmonious arrangement of information, ensuring clarity, all elegantly housed within a stunning gold case. Clothed in 18k gold, this Cosmic is in excellent vintage condition, fully operational, and primed for a new adventure. MODEL / REFERENCE: Omega Cosmic triple calendar moonphase in 18k yellow gold reference 2473. The movement’s serial number puts its production year to circa early 1947.

DIAL+HANDS: The stunning white dial is in very good condition, with a clear contrast between silver and white. The printing is crisp and complete all the way to the radial date portion. The matte silver area is nicely balanced with elegant golden, alternating arrow and baton markers at the quarters. The dial shows minor signs of aging and a small blemish between the 5 and 6 o’clock markers. The outer rack on the dial features a striking blue date chapter ring. The moon-phases window with the sub-seconds hand at 6 o’clock, along with the day and month apertures feature clean discs and sharp text in French. The “DIM” on the daywheel has a small damage. The golden leaf handset along with the blue date pointer are all original and remain in lovely vintage condition, displaying age related wear.

CRYSTAL: The domed acrylic crystal is in good condition with some faint scratches.

CASE: At 34.5mm in diameter, the three-body, solid yellow gold case is very elegant with its decorated lugs and wears superbly. It appears that the case has been lightly polished in the past but remains very strong and in lovely condition overall, as it shows a crisp hallmark and some wear marks throughout, commensurate with the impressive age of the watch. The three small pusher buttons protrude at 2, 4 and 8 o’clock, presenting no damage nor issues.

CASEBACK: The snap-on, yellow gold case back is lightly polished and displays light surface marks on the outside. The inner side is clean and decorated, bearing period correct stamps and hallmarks, including the Geneva key “Poinçon de Maître” signaling the work of master casemaker Ed. Wenger SA.

CROWN + PUSHERS: The signed golden crown is believed to be original to the watch. It operates flawlessly, from winding to time setting. The adjusting buttons at 2, 4 and 8 o’clock work perfectly advancing the month, date pointer and moon phases, respectively.

MOVEMENT: The manually wound, copper-finished cal. 27 DL PC was developed by Lemania for Omega. It is signed, features 17 jewels and animates a total set of 4 hands and 3 discs. Timekeeping tests show good accuracy, and all the functions work perfectly fine.

PS: It is best not to use the quickset features between 10PM and 2AM so it doesn’t damage the date driving wheel.

BRACELET: The watch is paired with a brand new, dark brown leather strap with a quick release function and a gold-plated generic buckle.
