We are thrilled to present a Heuer Carrera that happened to be Jack Heuer’s favorite model, a watch that easily sets itself apart stylistically from its contemporaries, with an interesting cushion case shape in solid yellow gold, attractive silver dial and arguably the world’s first automatic chronograph with a micro rotor: The Calibre 11.
It is said that less than 500 pieces are thought to have been produced in the early 1970s, and if that’s not rare enough for your taste, finding such well preserved specimen is something to behold.
Please read the condition report carefully and refer to the high-resolution pictures to help you assess the overall condition of the watch.
MODEL / REFERENCE: Heuer Carrera reference 1158 S Mark III. This is the second execution dial that dates from the early 1970s.
DIAL+HANDS: The silver dial shows off a vertically brushed finish and virtually no blemishes or age-related marks. The black imprint is sharp all the way to the tachymeter scale on the periphery.
The framed date window at six o’clock adds a nice balance to the dial, with a clean date disc.
The brushed gold hands with black contours are gorgeous and correct. They are well preserved with intact tritium inlays that have turned into a rich, custard tone.
The applied gold markers are dissected with onyx inlays and each one is associated with a fully intact Tritium mass. The luminous markers have taken on a nice matching color to the handset inlays, remaining fully intact.
CRYSTAL: The Plexiglas crystal appears to be correct and comes in excellent condition, displaying virtually no visible marks.
CASE: The two-body, tonneau-shaped case in 18k yellow gold measures 38mm in diameter. It is in excellent condition as it managed to retain a vertical brushing on the top and untouched horizontal brushing on the sides. Despite being polished, the surface shows few wear marks throughout and a scuff between the bottom lugs as well as a faintly visible hallmark between the pushers.
The reference and serial numbers are clearly visible between both sets of lugs.
CASEBACK: The yellow gold, screw-down back is in very good condition as it retains its concentric brushed finish and displays very light scratches.
The inner side is clean and signed “Heuer – Leonidas S.A” along with the other correct hallmarks. The Master case maker’s hallmark indicates that it was made by Erwin Piquerez, famous for their super compressor cases.
CROWN+PUSHERS: The signed golden crown is situated on the left side of the watch and works perfectly, from winding to time setting.
The fluted pump pushers are correct. They operate the chronograph functions as intended.
MOVEMENT: Automatic cam-switched Calibre 11 that features a micro rotor, offers a bi-compax display and a semi-quickset date function.
It is clean and all functions have been inspected, therefore it keeps accurate time, and everything works flawlessly.
BRACELET: Maurice De Mauriac black perforated leather strap in good overall condition and a signed 18k yellow gold pin-buckle.
ACCESSORIES: Saffiano Leather Watch Roll.
WARRANTY: We guarantee the authenticity of the watch. We also provide 12 months guarantee for the correct function of this timepiece. All guarantees are subject to the General Terms and conditions.
