Universal Genève Polerouter Reference 204610/4

Few watches can claim to have reshaped both aviation history and watch design quite like the Universal Genève Polerouter. Introduced in 1954 to commemorate Scandinavian Airlines System’s pioneering transpolar flights, it was entrusted to a young Gérald Genta, whose elegant design would become one of the defining dress watches of the post-war era.

The beautifully tropicalized dial, covered in a uniform constellation of warm “freckles”, gives this example a unique character that simply cannot be replicated.

MODEL / REFERENCE: Universal Genève Polerouter Date, reference 204610-4. Likely produced between 1959 and 1962. Inventory Code: 60623-2. 

DIAL + HANDS: Original black dial that has developed a spectacular and remarkably uniform tropical patina throughout, creating an attractive freckled appearance that gives the watch tremendous character.  

The gilt printing remains crisp and well preserved, while the date aperture at 3 o’clock shows a clean date disc.  

The original dauphine hands remain in very good condition and complement the dial beautifully. 

CRYSTAL: Original Plexiglas crystal with integrated magnifier over the date aperture. It remains in very good vintage condition with very faint, superficial marks. 

CASE: Stainless-steel case measuring 34mm in diameter and approximately 42mm lug-to-lug. Manufactured by the renowned case maker Huguenin Frères, it features elegant lyre lugs and balanced proportions that wear comfortably on the wrist.  

The case appears to have seen some light polishing in the past, but retains a strong profile and attractive overall definition. Honest wear and light hairline scratches are present throughout, entirely consistent with age. 

CASE BACK: Stainless-steel screw-down case back in honest condition. Heavy wear marks and scratches are present over the previously polished surface. The reference and serial numbers are barely visible, while the interior bears the correct factory markings, including the case maker’s initials.   

CROWN: Original signed Universal Genève crown operating correctly, allowing smooth winding, precise time setting and date adjustment. 

MOVEMENT: In-house Universal Genève Calibre 215-2 automatic movement featuring the manufacture’s ingenious micro-rotor architecture and a date function.  

The movement has been inspected by our watchmaker, runs properly and keeps accurate time. 

STRAP: Newly fitted 18mm brown leather strap paired with a generic stainless-steel pin buckle. 

ACCESSORIES: Saffiano leather watch roll.
