Introduced in 1977, after five years of research and development, the Oysterquartz is a testament of the quartz crisis era, in which the new technology that was pummelling the mechanical watch industry. The Oysterquartz’s design is a complete diversion from anything else Rolex has produced before or since. It is perhaps Rolex’s most under-appreciated yet over-engineered watch with maximum durability, rarity and precision. MODEL / REFERENCE: Rolex Datejust Oysterquartz, Ref. 17014A. The P Serial number dates it to approx. 2000. Inventory number: 251010-1
DIAL+ HANDS: beautiful black dial in original condition. All printing is sharp, the date wheel is clean. The lume dots are all present and intact.. The applied coronet, as well as the highly-polished white gold stick markers, are incredibly well preserved. The handset is in excellent condition. When activated with UV light, the hands and lume dots glow.
CRYSTAL: Sapphire crystal in mint condition.
CASE&BEZEL: The case shows only minimal signs of use and displays a razor-sharp case with intact chamfer on the case and bracelet. The reference and serial number on the caseback are crisp. The white gold bezel is sharp and appears to be unpolished.
CROWN: The original Rolex crown displays a crisp coronet and a straight line underneath it, symbolizing the infamous twin lock system patented by Rolex. The crown screws down tightly, pulls out to time setting and quick-date setting positions perfectly.
CASEBACK: The stainless steel case back is in excellent condition, with the original Rolex sticker still present. The inner case back is clean and stamped with all the period correct engravings including the 17014A reference number.
MOVEMENT: The COSC-certified in-house caliber 5035 has been serviced in 2024, as indicated by the watchmaker’s markings on the inner caseback.
BRACELET: The original stainless steel bracelet carries the reference 17010. It shows almost no stretch and only minimal signs of use. The signed Rolex clasp carries the correct stamps.

A child of the 1970s, this technological piece of wonder awakened from its slumber thanks to the market heat around the integrated bracelet steel watches dictated by the sporty Genta-inspired design language. It is said that only 25,000 watches with the Oysterquartz movement were produced over a quarter of a century.
