ChronoScope Collector watches presents, this refreshing and super attractive Tudor Prince Oysterdate ref. 90520 with a linen dial.

Hans Wilsdorf was keen on marketing stunts, pushing the boundaries of Rolex watches to the extreme from the peak of Mount Everest to the depths of the Mariana trench. The genius of Wilsdorf lead to the creation of the Tudor watch Company, demonstrating that a more affordable price doesn’t compromise quality and reliability. Therefore, Tudor watches were marketed in the 40s amongst working men such as construction workers and miners. They were a huge success back then.

The Tudor Oyster Prince line was launched in 1952 and continues to be a cornerstone of the Tudor collection. Each Oyster Prince featured two technical innovations that were exclusive to Rolex: The trademark waterproof “Oyster” case and the twin lock crown.

Featuring many of the same parts as their Rolex cousins but fitted with ETA movements, these models present a great value to collectors of any level.

Please read the condition report carefully and refer to the high resolution pictures to help you assess the overall condition of the watch.

 MODEL / REFERENCE:Tudor Prince Oysterdate reference 90520.

DIAL+HANDS: This superbly executed linen dial is as clean and fresh as it gets, setting the watch apart by adding a touch of visual interest and highly attractive light-play. At the same time, it is interestingly subdued enough to keep this timepiece from looking brash.

From the text at the center to the fine minutes track, the black printing on the dial is very crisp and presents no losses. The dial displays a very subtle patina and no blemishes or marks.

The applied silver hour markers are faceted and ornate with fine black enamel accents and each one is coupled with an intact Tritium dot at the tip. The markers show some mild oxidation and the lume dots glow briefly when activated with UV light.

The silver handset is original and in very good condition presenting light surface oxidation. This is an excellent example of the harmony with the dial, as the hands present intact Tritium stripes at their respective ends that have aged at the same rate as the hour lume plots, taking a dark gray color.

CRYSTAL: The Rolex low profile plexiglass crystal is very clean, displaying only some minor surface scratches throughout. The magnifying Cyclops at 3 o’clock is clear and aligns perfectly with the date window.

CASE: Thestainless steel oyster case is the same as those used by Rolex’s dressy watches. Although modest in size at 34mm, crowns excluded, the case is beefy with long lugs, and wears larger than the size would suggest. The case looks like it has stood the test of time, retaining thick and even lugs with strong lines. It still displays mostly intact satin finish suggesting probably a light polish in the past. Some surface scratches and small nicks can be seen, throughout, especially on the sloped bezel and on the back of the lugs, which are typical of normal wear in line with the age of this watch.

CASEBACK: The stainless steel caseback is in good vintage condition overall, with minor tool marks and scratches from previous opening attempts. We can observe a very well pronounced script engraving throughout and the knurling is undamaged.

The inner caseback is corrosion free and is stamped with all correct “Montres Tudor” nomenclature of the period as well as “C.R.S.,” the same case manufacturer’s signature found on the Rolex Daytonas of the mid-1960s to early 70s.

MOVEMENT:Under the caseback, we can find a very clean and bright Tudor Auto-Prince calibre with a ball bearing rotor. The 25 jewel movement is based on the reliable ETA 2784, offering a hack feature and a quickset date function.

As would be expected, it has been recently overhauled thus ticks strong, keeps good time and quicksets the date function flawlessly.

CROWN: The correct Rolex crown displays a crisp coronet and a straight line underneath it, symbolizing the infamous twin lock system patented by Rolex. The crown screws down tightly, pulls out to the winding, time setting and quick-date setting positions perfectly.

BRACELET: This Tudor has been fitted with a quick release gray suede strap to complement the beauty of the silver linen dial.

ACCESSORIES: ChronoScope Saffiano Leather watch roll.

This Tudor Prince Oysterdate is sheer perfection with the combination of the silver linen dial, and smooth bezel that give it a do-it-all aesthetic. The watch exudes a refined air that made it the perfect choice for dressier occasions while being quite sporty at heart and ready for heavy duty work.
