ChronoScope Collector Watches presents this simple, yet elegant Omega Constellation “C” reference CD 168.017 SP.

Introduced in 1952, the Constellation line is Omega’s formal dress watch offering that’s still well alive today. It’s also known to be one of the most wide-ranging lines to suite various budgets and tastes.

It’s no secret that the name “Constellation” has become synonymous with quality. In fact, it’s one of the finest and most accurate lines of watches available at the time.

The watch design drastically changed in 1964 with the introduction of the so-called “C-shaped” case. Such iconic design was conceived by none other than Gérald Genta, the designing godfather of some of the most prominent watches today like the Patek Philippe Nautilus and the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak.

The example sold here has been worn throughout its life, but is still in good condition considering its age.

Please read the condition report carefully to help you assess the overall condition of the watch.

MODEL / REFERENCE:  Omega Constellation “C” Ref. CD 168.017 SP. The 30 Million serial numeral dates the year of manufacture to circa 1969.

DIAL+HANDS:The dial on this particular example comes with a gorgeous, minimalist silver dial with a sunburst finish, and features a framed date window at the 3 O’clock position, with a clean disc.

The black imprint is still original, sharp and presents no loss throughout. The Omega name, logo and the signature Constellation star at 6 o’clock are applied and catch the light quite nicely.

The dial is virtually spotless with subtle marks near the 7 and 8 o’clock markers and has developed a subtle, homogenous patina.

The applied gold toned hour markers are ornate with black onyx accents to balance the dial. Each one is coupled with an intact Tritium plot that took a custard-brownish color.

The original gold toned handset is elegant and correct to this reference. The hour and minute hands present sublime onyx accents and luminous tips that match the lume plots’ patina.

CRYSTAL: The watch comes with a generic domed plexiglass crystal which is in excellent condition, displaying a couple of very subtle hairline scratches.

MOVEMENT: Omega filled this case with a 24-Jewel, 564 automatic inhouse caliber. The copper plated movement features a date complication at 3 o’clock that can be quickly adjusted by repeatedly pulling the crown, a handy function suitable for a daily wearer.

This chronometer certified movement has been adjusted to five positions as well as temperature to increase its precision. As expected, it has been serviced and ticks strong.

CASE:The case sets itself apart with a 35mm diameter and fully integrated lugs that span to roughly 40mm to hug the wrist rather than stand on it. This third series of the case design gives the impression of a larger look and reflects the emerging trend of the 1960s toward bigger watches.

The case is made of stainless steel topped with an intact 20 micron gold cap. It is still incredibly crisp, showing unaltered graining finish on the sides.

We can observe quite few marks on the case upon close examination, especially on the side of the top right lug but no coarse damage elsewhere. The case is unpolished and therefore in original shape, with sharp edges and curves.

CASEBACK: The six notches screw down caseback is in very good condition, displaying very fine surface scratches throughout.

At the center, we can gaze upon a crisp medallion featuring the Geneva observatory crowned by a constellation of eight stars, evoking the numerous exploits of Omega in world chronometer competition.

The inside caseback is stamped with the correct Omega stamps, KB case maker hallmark and case reference number.

CROWN:The crown is original and bears the Omega logo. It displays no surface damage or gold cap loss and operates as intended, from winding, time-setting to quick date setting by repeatedly pulling the crown.

BRACELET: This Constellation comes fitted with a fantastic black leather strap in lizard motif with a 19mm width.

ACCESSORIES:ChronoScope Saffiano Leather watch roll.

Omega Constellation watches are growing in popularity by the day thanks to a devoted following who fondly refer them as “Connies.”

This is due to their long lasting synonymy with timekeeping precision and excellence. From the silky look of the dial, to the pleasingly enhanced case, this Connie is a compelling timepiece that’s well worth collecting.

WARRANTY: We guarantee the authenticity of the watch. We also provide 12 months guarantee for the correct function of this timepiece. All guarantees are subject to the General Terms and conditions of ChronoScope Collector Watches, Switzerland.
